Eversource lineworkers continue to work nonstop to restore power to customers following fierce winds that brought down trees and tree limbs onto electric lines and equipment across the state. Hundreds of line and tree crews are making necessary repairs to the electric system, and as of noon, the energy company has restored power to more than 85,000 customers since high winds began yesterday afternoon and cleared more than 190 blocked roads. Outside crews have been brought in to assist with those efforts as gusty conditions continued to impact the state overnight, causing additional damage and outages.

Between June 1 and November 30, NOAA is forecasting a 60% chance of an above-normal season with 6-10 hurricanes having winds of 74 mph or higher and 3-5 major hurricanes with winds 111 mph or higher. As warmer weather arrives in Connecticut and customers start cranking up the air conditioner to beat the heat, a new lower Standard Service supply rate was filed today with Connecticut’s Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) that would go into effect July 1. The new Standard Service rate for residential customers receiving energy supply through Eversource would change from the current 11.19 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) to 9.75 cents per kWh starting July 1. For the typical residential customer using 700 kWh per month, that’s a decrease of approximately $10, or 5%, on their total bill.

With the Hawthorne brush fire continuing to burn and spread on Lamentation Mountain in Berlin, Eversource is closely monitoring electric transmission lines and equipment in the vicinity. To assess any possible damage, the energy company is conducting ongoing aerial surveys on three of its high-voltage power lines, located approximately a mile and a half from where it is believed the fire originated. At the present time, no issues are identified with any electric equipment in the area and no associated power outages are reported.
