Eversource makes significant progress on restoration as wind gusts continue to impact the state
Dec 20, 2025
Power restored to more than 85,000 customers; additional outside crews brought in to assist
BERLIN, Conn. (Dec. 20, 2025) – Eversource lineworkers continue to work nonstop to restore power to customers following fierce winds that brought down trees and tree limbs onto electric lines and equipment across the state. Hundreds of line and tree crews are making necessary repairs to the electric system, and as of noon, the energy company has restored power to more than 85,000 customers since high winds began yesterday afternoon and cleared more than 190 blocked roads. Outside crews have been brought in to assist with those efforts as gusty conditions continued to impact the state overnight, causing additional damage and outages.

“We recognize this is a busy time for our customers, preparing for the holidays and our line and tree crews are working tirelessly around the clock to restore power as quickly and safely as possible,” said Eversource President of Connecticut Electric Operations Steve Sullivan. “Overnight we did see winds ramp back up, which caused more trees and limbs to fall and damage the electric system. Those wind gusts are expected to continue through Sunday, which may cause additional outages. While we continue to make good progress, we’re at the stage of the restoration process where outages often require extensive repairs that are labor intensive and time-consuming and will only bring back a handful of customers. Our massive team working in the field and behind the scenes is committed to this restoration and will stay on the job until power is back for every single customer affected.”
Eversource says most customers impacted by the storm will have power back by Sunday evening, with most being restored sooner. Customers are reminded to always stay clear of downed wires – including keeping pets away – and report them immediately to 9–1–1 and to report any outage online, or by calling 800-286-2000. The energy company also reminds customers who are without power and using a generator to be sure the generator is located well away from their home or business and that the transfer switch is working properly. Customers should also be cautious when doing their own storm cleanup – when moving or cutting tree limbs, look for any wires that may be entangled in debris.
