The Underground Cable Modernization Program (UCMP) is designed to modernize and increase the capacity of the existing underground transmission cable systems by replacing existing fluid-filled cable with cross-linked polyethylene cable.
This modernization proactively addresses any issues obtaining supplies needed for system repairs and upgrades and reduces the occurrence of unplanned outages which may require the need for emergency replacement or repair. This is a more environmentally friendly and widely available technology with a greater life expectancy.
The new polyethylene cable requires less maintenance and minimizes the impact to customers and property owners along the project route.
