UCMP Mystic to Everett Line Replacement
Español | Português Brasileiro| Kreyòl ayisyen (PDFs)
Why Are We Doing This Project?
To meet demand, deliver reliable energy and provide superior service to our customers, we are proposing to replace existing underground 115-kilovolt (kV) high-pressure fluid filled (HPFF) electric transmission lines with new cross-linked polyethylene 115-kv (XLPE) technology. Replacing the existing HPFF lines with XLPE cable technology will modernize cable infrastructure and increase long-term system reliability.
These improvements align with the Commonwealth's goal to achieve net zero carbon emission standards by 2050.
The proposed project is part of a larger program we are conducting throughout our service territory in Massachusetts and Connecticut related to underground cable modernization. This project is a coordinated interconnection initiative between National Grid and Eversource.
Where Is This Work Being Done?
The proposed replacement lines would follow the same route as the existing lines whenever feasible. Transmission line replacement will require roadwork along Horizon Way, Broadway Street in Everett and Alford Street in Boston until reaching the Mystic Substation.
Minor upgrades to the Eversource Mystic Substation will be required to accommodate the XLPE cables. Once the new XLPE lines are installed, the existing HPFF lines will be retired.
Replacement work will not interrupt normal electric service to local customers.
