In recognition of Heating Assistance Awareness Month in Connecticut, Eversource is encouraging qualifying customers to take advantage of heating assistance available to them through The Connecticut Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) . Administered by the state, CEAP helps residents pay for their home heating costs. For the 2025/26 winter season, residents can receive a benefit of up to $645 depending on household size, income and heating source.

Ghosts, skeletons, and goblins will soon freely walk neighborhood streets asking for sweet treats, and Eversource is alerting customers they may have already inadvertently invited vampires into their homes and businesses. Vampire power, also known as phantom load, ghost energy or standby power, is electricity that is consumed by some appliances and electronics even when they’re turned off. If not kept in check, it can account for up to 10 percent of a household’s energy use and cost as much as $100 a year, according to the Department of Energy.

As the ocean waters churn along the east coast and another hurricane season begins, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is predicting above-normal activity for the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season. Between June 1 and November 30, NOAA is forecasting a 60% chance of an above-normal season with 6-10 hurricanes having winds of 74 mph or higher and 3-5 major hurricanes with winds 111 mph or higher. With the changing climate increasing the frequency and severity of extreme weather around the globe, including here in New England, Eversource is reminding customers to plan and always be prepared for severe weather. Stringing electric lines is part of the job for Eversource lineworkers, but today they’re using their bucket trucks and skills for a different kind of project – stringing ropes for a challenge course at a summer camp in Ashford. As warmer weather arrives in Connecticut and customers start cranking up the air conditioner to beat the heat, a new lower Standard Service supply rate was filed today with Connecticut’s Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) that would go into effect July 1. The new Standard Service rate for residential customers receiving energy supply through Eversource would change from the current 11.19 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) to 9.75 cents per kWh starting July 1. For the typical residential customer using 700 kWh per month, that’s a decrease of approximately $10, or 5%, on their total bill.

As winter approaches, Eversource is reminding customers they can take control of their energy costs by shopping for a third-party supplier before an expected supply rate increase that typically occurs at the beginning of each year. Roughly half of New England’s electricity is produced using natural gas, and seasonal demand for the fuel drives up the price power generators charge. Under state laws related to deregulated energy markets, Eversource is prohibited from generating electricity and is required to purchase power on behalf of customers who’re not enrolled with an alternate supplier. With the Hawthorne brush fire continuing to burn and spread on Lamentation Mountain in Berlin, Eversource is closely monitoring electric transmission lines and equipment in the vicinity. To assess any possible damage, the energy company is conducting ongoing aerial surveys on three of its high-voltage power lines, located approximately a mile and a half from where it is believed the fire originated. At the present time, no issues are identified with any electric equipment in the area and no associated power outages are reported. In addition to upgraded street lighting, multiple energy efficiency improvements were made at the Fire Department, Police Department, Teen Center, Veteran’s Office and Public Works Department.
