Pootatuck to West Devon Rebuild Project
Rebuilding existing 115 KV transmission lines between Pootatuck Substation in Shelton and West Devon Junction in Stratford.
Why Are We Doing This Project?
Maintaining infrastructure is one of the many ways we support the safe and secure transmission of electricity throughout the region.
Portions of this power line corridor, which includes the 1580, 1545, 1241, and 1483 lines, are deteriorating due to their age.
Originally built in the 1930s, 51 existing lattice structures will be replaced with 62 new weathering steel monopole structures for reliability purposes. The location and heights of the new structures will vary depending on topography, environmental resources and other factors.
This project also proposes to replace the conductor (energized wires) with new wire of the same voltage, and the shield wire (top-most wire) with new Optical Ground Wire (OPGW). The OPGW is designed to improve electric reliability by enabling communications between substations.

We are rebuilding the 115-kilovolt (kV) transmission line infrastructure that span approximately 3.3 miles between the United Illuminating-owned Pootatuck Substation off Old Stratford Road in Shelton and an area near River Valley Road in Stratford called West Devon Junction.
