Electric Sector Modernization Plan (ESMP) Projects

Massachusetts’ ambitious climate goals are written into state law and require moving to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Our Electric Sector Modernization Plan (ESMP) is a key part of making that happen.

The ESMP outlines what electric upgrades and innovations are necessary in the next five years and 10 years to put the commonwealth on the path to achieving a clean energy future.

How The ESMP Benefits You

  • Enough energy to address the growing electric demand
  • Electric grid reliability, safety and resiliency improvements with priority to environmental justice communities
  • Improved air quality due to reduced greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants
  • New tools and technology to give you more control over your energy use and costs

The Projects

ESMP projects are currently in various stages of development, and we are committed to engaging project stakeholders early and often to solicit feedback and have open discussions.

You can view more detailed information about the work being done on each project page.
