Fremont to Stratham (H141, A126, R193) Maintenance Structure Replacement Project
Why Are We Doing This Project?
Transmission maintenance projects are developed using yearly inspection data and engineering analysis. Structures that are determined as needing replacement due to poor or outdated condition are packaged into projects and scheduled to be replaced. There are several causes of deteriorating structures including age, woodpecker damage, insect damage, rot, and various other externalities.
These infrastructure improvements are part of our ongoing investments to improve the reliability, safety, and resiliency of the electric power grid.
Where Is The Work Being Done?
This work is taking place within our existing right-of-way (power line corridor). The project will stretch from Taylor Lane in Fremont, NH to the Great Bay Substation in Stratham, NH.
The section of this project impacting public town recreation trails between Watson Road and Captain’s Way in Exeter is complete. Trails are open again for public use. Please use caution in this newly restored area and reach out if you have questions or concerns regarding restoration.
This transmission line crosses the following roads:
Fremont
Taylor Lane, South Road, Danville Road, Red Brook Road, Copp Drive
Brentwood
Route 125, Prescott Road, Long Meadow Drive, Pine Road
Exeter
Old Town Farm Road, Beech Hill Road, Watson Road, Captains Way, Newfields Road
Stratham
Raeder Drive, Butterfield Lane, Portsmouth Avenue, Stephen Drive, Muirfield Drive
What is the Scope of This Project?
This Structure Replacement Project will replace 88 structures along The H141, A126, and R193 transmission lines. These lines are all 115kv transmission lines. The voltage of these lines will not be increasing, and nearby residents should not expect to lose electricity as a result of this project.
The old existing structures will be replaced with new weathered steel structures of similar height and location. These new structures are more resilient against the common ailments that affect wooden poles.
At the completion of this project there will be a total of 192 remaining wood structures across the H141, A126, and R193 lines. The total is broken out below:
- H141: 69 remaining wood structures
- A126: 76 remaining wood structures
- R193: 47 remaining wood structures
When Is The Work Being Done?

Community Outreach
We're committed to engaging municipal officials, residents, businesses, community groups and other stakeholders about upcoming project activities through municipal briefings, mailings, site meetings, virtual meetings and door-to-door outreach, while adhering to COVID-19 social distancing and other related health and safety guidelines.
We utilize a variety of outreach methods to ensure that all customers and property owners along our transmission lines receive adequate and timely information about our projects. For this Project, we will be sending periodic updates as letters mailed directly to all stakeholders, as well as a combination of the following additional methods:
- Door-to-door outreach
- Site visits (upon request)
- Virtual meetings (upon request)
- Signage placed strategically near construction areas or in residential areas
- Regular field presence to ensure the safety of our customers, nearby property owners, and our construction crews
