Blandford Substation Upgrade
Why Are We Doing This Project?
We determined after an extensive study that integration of additional clean energy into the electrical grid in the Plainfield-Blandford area requires upgrades to our Blandford Substation. This project will support interconnection of new renewable resources and improve reliability.
This work is part of a larger initiative focused on electric system enhancements to maintain reliability and enable distributed energy resource (DER) facilities to safely interconnect and operate.
Where Is This Work Being Done?
The substation is located on North Blandford Road. Upgrades to the substation include:
- Expanding the fenced substation yard on our property from approximately 0.65 acres to approximately 1.13 acres to accommodate new equipment
- Replacing two existing transformers
- Installing new foundations, trenching and conduits
- Installing a new switchgear enclosure
- Installing two new circuit breakers
- Installing a new chain link mesh fence, of similar height to existing
- Constructing a new access driveway off North Blandford Road
When Is The Work Being Done?
- Proposed start of construction: Q1 2027*
- Estimated in-service date: Q1 2028*
- Construction duration: Approximately 12 months*
*Subject to change, pending necessary approvals
