Towantic to Beacon Falls Junction Rebuild Project

Why Are We Doing This Project?

Maintaining infrastructure is one of the many ways we support the safe and secure transmission of electricity throughout the region.

We are proposing to replace 75 existing towers with new steel monopole structures in Oxford, the conductor (energized wires) with new wire of the same voltage and the shield wire (top-most wire) with new optical ground wire (OPGW). The OPGW is designed to improve electric reliability by enabling communications between substations.

Where Is The Work Being Done?

We are rebuilding the 115-kilovolt (kV) transmission line infrastructure that spans approximately 4.5 miles between Towantic substation on Woodruff Hill Road to the Beacon Falls Junction on Chestnut Tree Road in Oxford.

Steel structures will be galvanized from the Christian Street Junction to Towantic substation to match existing line. Weathering steel will be used from the Christian Street Junction to the Beacon Falls substation.
