Woburn to Wakefield Line Project

Construction Updates

Stoneham

Week of May 6

Main Street

  • Crews from McCourt Construction and their subcontractor will be installing a section of fiber optic cable in three locations on Main Street and Montvale Ave. This work is expected to last 3 days.

Montvale Avenue 

  • Crews from McCourt Construction will continue restoring sections of the stone wall abutting Lindenwood Cemetery as well as the stone wall at Stoneham Bank. Starting as soon as May 13, crews will be restoring pavement at the parking lot located at 68 Montvale Ave.

General work hours are Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Nighttime hours are 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Some work may extend beyond normal work hours based on approval from municipal officials.

As construction continues, the police department may modify the traffic management plans based on their judgment and expertise. Please exercise caution when approaching active work areas to minimize risks to personal safety and to avoid interfering with construction.

Final restoration activities will occur this year.

Winchester

Week of May 6

Cross Street

On Monday, May 6, one crew will conduct minor repairs to the temporary pavement patches near Holton Street and near Conant Road. There are no other construction activities planned in Winchester this week.

Border Street 

Crews are completing sidewalk restoration at the corner of Border Street and Main Street. Residents may find alternate parking on Pickering Street or Sheridan Circle, as needed.

General work hours are Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some work may extend beyond normal work hours based on approval from municipal officials.

As construction continues, the police department may modify the traffic management plans based on their judgment and expertise. Please exercise caution when approaching active work areas to minimize risks to personal safety and to avoid interfering with construction.


Woburn

Week of May 6

Lake Ave/Border Street

  • One crew is restoring the intersection of Lake Avenue and Arlington Road.
  • A second crew is restoring curbs and sidewalks on the opposite side of Lake Avenue between Pickering Street and Lake Terrace. Residents may find alternate parking on Pickering Street, Lake Terrace, or at Horn Pond.
  • Additional crews are working with City staff to complete sidewalk restoration at the intersection of Border Street and Main Street.
  • Starting as soon as May 13, crews will begin milling Lake Avenue, from the Woburn Substation to Pickering Street, as well as Border Street and the portion of Pickering Street along the project route. Crews will begin milling the roadway, adjust roadway castings, then conduct final paving and striping.

    General work hours are Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Some work may extend beyond normal work hours based on approval from based on weekly municipal officials.

    Siting Review

    The Massachusetts ESFB Petition Filing is part of the regulatory review process, as defined by Massachusetts state statutes.

    On February 28, 2018, we received approval from the EFSB to construct the project. See the EFSB 15-04 Final Decision.

    Community Outreach

    Before starting construction in a community, we mail start of construction letters to property owners along the route. In addition, door-to door outreach is done in advance of each major construction phase to keep property owners informed.
