BOSTON and SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 14, 2023) – More than 1,300 Eversource line, tree and service crews are actively working across Massachusetts to address public safety priorities, clear damage and make repairs as heavy, wet snow and strong winds from the ongoing nor’easter bring trees and limbs down onto the electric system. With the support of out-of-state crews from as far away as Arizona, Mississippi and North Dakota, the energy company’s lineworkers and remote system operators have restored power to more than 16,000 customers, mostly in Western Massachusetts, since the storm began.

“This is a long-duration storm with multiple fronts, and strengthening winds combined with significant amounts of heavy, wet snow will continue to cause tree damage to the electric system and additional outages into tomorrow,” said Eversource President for Regional Electric Operations Craig Hallstrom. “We’re coordinating closely with our communities and public safety officials to respond to blocked roads and other critical safety priorities, and we thank our customers for their understanding as our more than a thousand line, tree and service crews safely work to respond to issues and repair damage during the persistent challenging conditions from this nor’easter.”

Winds are expected to strengthen throughout the afternoon and into tonight particularly along coastal areas and higher terrain in Western Massachusetts as the Nor’easter also continues to dump heavy, wet snow in western parts of the state. Additional damage to the electric system and potential outages caused by the storm remain likely into tomorrow. Current outages, including a community-by-community list, are available and updated approximately every 15 minutes on the energy company’s Outage Map

Eversource continues to urge customers to always stay clear of downed wires, report them immediately to 911 and report any outage online at Eversource.com or by calling 800-592-2000 in Eastern Massachusetts or 877-659-6326 in Western Massachusetts. Customers who rely on generators should operate it outdoors, as far away from the home as possible, and away from any air vents, windows and doors.
