Eversource Ready for Another Round of Strong Winds and Rain
Jan 12, 2024
Energy company also monitoring another potential storm next week
BERLIN, Conn. (January 12, 2024) – With the third storm this week barreling toward New England, and a fourth not far behind, Eversource is preparing for another round of powerful winds and rain to hit the state overnight. The energy company continues to monitor several weather forecast models for this storm and is planning accordingly. Hundreds of line and tree crews will be positioned around the state in advance of the storm, so they can quickly respond to any damage or power outages caused by the weather.
“Since the end of 2023, we’ve had storm after storm, and while many of the forecasts have been very similar, they’ve had dramatically different impacts on our state,” said Eversource President of Electric Operations in Connecticut Steve Sullivan. “After restoring power for our customers and repairing damage to the system just two days ago, our crews are ready to respond again to any issues from this next storm. The ground is still oversaturated from the melting snow and rain, and that coupled with the forecasted high winds could make trees and limbs more susceptible to falling on power lines, causing outages. We understand that customers may be feeling some storm fatigue, but we encourage them to remain prepared by having a storm kit and keeping those electronic devices charged.”
Storm kits should include essentials like flashlights, batteries, water, non-perishable foods, any needed medications, pet food and other necessities. In addition, create an emergency plan with family members and prepare to check on elderly neighbors and friends.
Eversource reminds customers to always stay clear of downed wires – which includes keeping pets away – and to report them immediately to 9-1-1. Be sure to report any outage online, or by calling 800-286-2000. Customers who signed up for the company’s two-way texting feature can send a text to report an outage and receive outage updates as they happen.
