Quick Action Helps Woman in Medical Emergency
When a medical emergency unfolded during a regular workday, Brian Cirella, Chief Meter Service Mechanic, didn’t hesitate to step in. His quick thinking turned a potentially tragic moment into one of confident care.
While working in Ansonia, Connecticut, he was flagged down by two railroad workers. They saw him nearby in his bright safety gear and asked for help. A woman nearby had collapsed in a parking lot adjacent to the train station and was having a seizure.
He immediately made sure one of the workers had called 911. He then focused on the woman, helping her stay calm, coherent and as comfortable as possible until emergency responders arrived. He placed his safety vest under her head to protect it and spoke with her until the ambulance arrived.
He shared that the railroad workers weren't sure what to do, but he had just taken a CPR and First Aid class through Eversource. The training included how to help someone having a seizure, and it helped him stay calm and take the right steps.
"This training helps us be prepared to not only help a coworker in distress, but anyone we encounter at home or in the field working,” explained his supervisor, Gerry Fritch.
Manager Nicole Karinchak added, “This is a great example of how the wide variety of training and guidance at Eversource has provided each of us with the ability to impact the public.”
