Energy company’s vegetation management team recognized at NEC-ISA Annual Conference for working with communities to “plan before you plant”

MANCHESTER, N.H. (October 4, 2021) – In recognition of its commitment to environmental responsibility while providing safe, reliable service to customers, Eversource today received the Harry J. Banker Gold Leaf Award at the New England Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture (NEC-ISA) Annual Conference & Trade Show. Presented to individuals, organizations, and communities for outstanding Arbor Day activities or outstanding landscape beautification activities that have a significant, sustained impact upon a community or region, Eversource received this year’s Gold Leaf Award for its educational partnerships with arborists, municipalities, students, and the public about planting the right tree in the right place.

Gold Leaf Award Presentation“Our comprehensive vegetation management programs are critical to our work every day at Eversource to provide safe, reliable service to our customers in an environmentally responsible manner,” said Eversource Vice President of Operations Services Stephen Driscoll. “Receiving the Gold Leaf Award is a distinguished honor that would not be possible without our many strong partners, and we look forward to continuing to work with municipalities, schools and others across the Granite State to ‘plan before you plant.’”

In a pre-conference kickoff event on Sunday, Eversource hosted a tour of its new and improved utility arboretum at its Legends Drive facility in Hooksett. With trees being the leading cause of power outages, educational utility arboretums provide students, tree wardens, municipal leaders, landscape architects and the public examples of the wide variety of trees that can be safely planted near and under utility equipment. Eversource has four such utility arboreta, which are located in Berlin, Connecticut, at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, at the Urban Forestry Center in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and in Hooksett.
