So, it is only natural they bring that same focus to their own operations—teaming up with our energy efficiency experts to reduce their energy use. Here’s what it takes for our energy efficiency experts to turn USA Waste & Recycling’s 8,000-square-foot warehouse in Hatfield into an energy efficient workspace.

“Better insulation is going to provide the customer with better comfort,” according to Eversource Energy Efficiency Consultant Kim Kiernan. “Increasing the amount of insulation in a building is one of the easiest ways to achieve energy efficiency savings. It will lower their heating bills and the overall weatherization will keep them more comfortable in the winter and the summer months."

The work begins with ripping out wet, animal-damaged insulation lining the roof and walls.

“They had some very minimal layers of insulation that had been infested by animals and water damage from when the roof had leaked,” Eversource Contractor Chris Trotta explains about the challenge of sealing up this warehouse.

After tearing out the old insulation, the walls must be clean for the new, state-of-the-art foam insulation to stick. The foam is twice as efficient in keeping the building warm in winter and cool in the summer. Our contractor, Advanced Energy, also applies a coat of fire-retardant paint for added protection to the foam.
