BOSTON and SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (August 30, 2022) – In another distinction for Eversource’s leadership in corporate responsibility, for the fifth year in a row the Boston Business Journal has named the energy company an honoree in its annual 2022 Corporate Citizenship Awards, a recognition of the region's top corporate charitable contributors.

“Having the chance to make a positive difference in the lives of our customers is a privilege,” said Eversource Foundation President and Vice President for Corporate Citizenship and Equity Theresa Hopkins-Staten. “We have a responsibility to invest in organizations, initiatives and services that provide broad, meaningful and sustainable change in the communities we serve that are most at-risk, overburdened and under-resourced. We look forward to that continued spirit of partnership as we all work together to create conditions for all of our communities to thrive.”

The Business Journal annually publishes this list to showcase companies that promote and prioritize giving back to their communities – a feat that is even more important during times of turmoil and crisis, such as those collectively experienced throughout 2021.

“The past couple of years has presented companies and communities with many challenges, and the needs have continued to grow,” said Boston Business Journal Market President and Publisher Carolyn Jones. “It is with honor that we present our list of the Top Charitable Contributors in Massachusetts – companies who gave $100,000 or more to Mass.-based in charities in 2021. Collectively, they gave $322 million in cash contributions – a true example of the business community coming together to help those in need. We are proud to celebrate these organizations who give both money and time to make Boston a stronger and better place for all.”

In addition to financial support, Eversource also empowers employees to volunteer and give back to local organizations as part of the energy company’s commitment to supporting the communities it serves by providing regular volunteer opportunities and a program to match charitable contributions by individual employees. In 2021, Eversource’s volunteer programs engaged more than 4,900 employees and their families, who volunteered more than 23,700 hours at company-sponsored events.

Eversource, whose contributions in many instances include both the corporation and its charitable foundation, will be honored at the BBJ’s 17th Annual Corporate Citizenship Awards on Thursday, September 8th at the Revere Hotel Boston Common along with all those recognized as top Charitable Contributors, the Alnoba Lewis Family Foundation CEO Social Leadership Awardee and the 2022 Corporate Citizenship Community Collaboration Awardees (previously Partners of the Year).
