BOSTON and SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (May 1, 2023) – As part of its ongoing commitment to provide energy-optimizing resources for businesses across the commonwealth, Eversource kicked off National Small Business Week by highlighting its successful Main Streets program, which is coming to at least 60 Massachusetts communities in 2023 – including Cambridge, Attleboro and Raynham this week. Through Main Streets, local energy providers like Eversource partner with municipalities to connect small business owners with approved contractors who offer no-cost energy assessments and can discuss upgrades to lower energy use.

"We’ve had great success growing the Main Streets program and bringing energy efficiency solutions to our communities – helping more than 3,000 thousand local small businesses reduce their energy use and gain a competitive edge over the past several years,” said Eversource Vice President for Energy Efficiency and Electric Mobility Tilak Subrahmanian. “This year we’re excited to build on our success and bring Main Streets to at least 60 communities across the commonwealth, connecting business owners with resources that can be vital to their success and help them navigate through an uncertain economic landscape. We plan to continue expanding our community partnerships in the coming years and ask interested community leaders to reach out to us for more information about Main Streets.

In 2022, nearly 1,900 small businesses across 54 Massachusetts communities took part in Main Streets, implementing carbon reductions of approximately 19 million kWh in electric energy — equivalent to taking 3,290 cars off the road for a year — as well as nearly 274,000 therms of natural gas savings. This year, Eversource will continue building on that success with partnerships in more communities as energy efficiency plays a critical role in supporting the commonwealth’s aggressive nation-leading decarbonization goals.

The Main Streets energy efficiency program starts with a no-cost, no-obligation energy assessment to identify energy-saving opportunities for small businesses, such as new lighting, occupancy sensors, programmable thermostats, refrigeration controls, insulation and more. Some improvements, like installing aerators and spray valves, happen on the spot at no cost to the customer. More involved projects, like HVAC equipment upgrades or the installation of energy-efficient motor controls, are scheduled for a future date. Eversource offers increased incentives for a range of energy efficiency improvements to further offset the cost of upgrades, and interest-free financing is available for any remaining costs.

Local licensed electricians contracted by Eversource will complete approved projects and ensure minimal disruption to daily business operations, and all high-efficiency products installed as part of the program include warranties for both materials and labor. To schedule a no-cost, no-obligation assessment for your business, even if your community is not part of an official Main Streets partnership this year, please complete this registration form
