Eversource volunteers step up to help get drought-damaged summer camp ready for kids
May 29, 2025
New ropes course and restored grounds needed before 2,500 campers arrive this summer
BERLIN, Conn. (May 29, 2025) – Stringing electric lines is part of the job for Eversource lineworkers, but today they’re using their bucket trucks and skills for a different kind of project – stringing ropes for a challenge course at a summer camp in Ashford. Several lineworkers along with more than a dozen other Eversource employees are volunteering at the June Norcross Webster Scout Reservation Camp as part of Scouting America’s Day of Caring. The volunteers are helping to prepare and improve the camp before the 2025 summer season – working on landscaping, tree trimming, electrical work, and much-needed trail maintenance, in addition to installing the new ropes course.
“This year has been particularly challenging for camps across the state because of heavy rains and drought, which have caused trail erosion and deterioration of our outdoor facilities,” said Scouting America Event Coordinator Austin Deschamps. “We’re incredibly grateful to Eversource for donating the needed materials for the ropes course and to their employees for all of their hard work today. Their commitment to giving back exemplifies the spirit of community partnership that we value deeply as an organization and it’s what helps make scouting programs possible. I can’t wait to welcome the 2,500 campers throughout the summer and see the looks on their faces when they see the camp.”

The utility poles, ropes, other materials and labor for the new ropes course were donated by the energy company – an idea spearheaded by an Eversource lineworker who spent his childhood summers as a camper at the J.N. Webster Scout Reservation Camp.
“When our employee brought this project to us, it was a no brainer because supporting the communities we serve is something we’re always proud to do,” said Eversource Vice President of Connecticut Electric Operations Chris Colorio. “Partnering with Scouting America to help spruce up their summer camp and provide the poles and crews needed to install the new ropes course is a privilege. Our company and our employees, who are volunteering their time and expertise, are thrilled to lend a hand to this incredible organization that provides an unforgettable summer experience for campers.”
Eversource employees are joined by workers from United Illuminating and other local businesses to participate in the Day of Caring event. Learn more about Eversource's commitment to the communities it serves.
