Energy company investing $1.4 million to enhance reliability for customers

BERLIN, Conn. (April 19, 2023) – As part of its year-round commitment to providing reliable power to its customers, Eversource is investing $1.4 million in electric system upgrades in the northern part of Guilford. The work includes installing 85 stronger, thicker utility poles and stringing nearly 1.5 miles of overhead electric lines including “tree wire,” which can better withstand extreme weather.  

“This project will enhance electric reliability so customers have more dependable service and is part of our important every day work to make the system more resilient to extreme weather and other issues caused by climate change,” said Eversource President of Connecticut Electric Operations Steve Sullivan. “By continuing to make strategic investments in the system, like these in Guilford, we’re building a more robust and resilient electric grid that will serve our customers well into the future.”

The project is scheduled to begin during the second week of May with crews working Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. – weather permitting. Roads affected will include Long Hill Road between Route 80 (Old Toll Road) and Ledge Hill Road, as well as Great Hill Road between Fitch Hill Road and Saw Mill Hill Road.

Eversource works closely with community leaders and customers in the area to minimize potential impacts to traffic and coordinate with other local roadwork. Customers may experience short power interruptions at times during the course of the project so crews can safely perform the work. Any customers affected will be notified in advance by the energy company. The project is expected to be finished by the end of September and Eversource will provide regular updates to the community and customers in the area.
