energy efficiency upgrades saving energy Energize Connecticut

Comprehensive upgrades saving community more than 1.25 million kilowatt-hours of power annually while lowering carbon footprint

BERLIN, Conn. (August 22, 2023) – Following major energy efficiency upgrades to 12 community buildings, the Town of New Milford is now saving about 1.25 million kilowatt-hours of power annually – the equivalent of nearly 900 metric tons of CO2 or driving more than two million miles in a gas-powered car. Working with Eversource and their contractor, Energy Systems Group, the town achieved that goal in approximately one year. Multiple energy efficiency improvements were made at five schools, New Milford Town Hall, the Department of Public Safety, John Pettibone Community Center and the Paul Richmond Citizen Center.

“We’re pleased to partner with the town in delivering efficiency solutions that support their environmental goals,” said Eversource Vice President of Energy Efficiency and Electric Mobility Tilak Subrahmanian. “They took advantage of the Energize Connecticut initiative, specifically the Energy Opportunities program, and invested in energy-efficient equipment that reduces operating costs and improves the look of their existing buildings. It’s exciting to see the positive impact this will have for New Milford and their efforts to reduce their carbon footprint.”

The energy company supported a wide range of energy efficiency measures for the town including long-lasting and efficient LED lighting, solar panels, updated ventilation, transformers, boilers, insulation, and low-flow faucet aerators, which reduce the flow of water without reducing pressure – saving both water and energy.

“We took a comprehensive approach with all of our town buildings,” said New Milford Mayor Pete Bass. “The upgrades that were done across our town breathe new life into these buildings, allowing them to operate more efficiently for years to come and providing us with significant savings.”
