Stay Informed

Make sure we have your up-to-date contact information so we can get in touch before, during and after the storm.

Pre-Storm Preparation

  • Build an emergency kit with essential items including water, flashlights and batteries. Find a suggested list of items at ready.gov.
  • Save your valuable computer work by purchasing a battery-powered back-up power sourceā€”it will provide power to your computer long enough for you to save your work and shut down properly.
  • Charge cell phones.
  • Download and print the storm safety checklist to keep handy if you lose power.
  • Know how to operate a generator safely.
  • Make a list of emergency phone numbers or program them into your cell phone. Handy numbers to have include the Red Cross, fire and police.

Prep for Hurricanes and Extreme Weather

For more severe storms such as hurricanes, tropical storms or blizzards, you might want to take the following precautions a day or two ahead of the storm impacting your area.

  • Tape, board or shutter windows and glass doors.
  • Secure all outdoor objects that could become airborne by high winds.
  • Wedge sliding glass doors to prevent them from lifting from their tracks.
  • Plug sensitive computers and electronic equipment into surge suppressors or surge protectors. A surge suppressor diverts excessive electrical energy away from your equipment to an electrical "ground."
