Energy Efficiency

We connect our customers to industry-leading programs and tips designed to save energy and promote sustainability.

Energy efficiency is one of the most cost-effective ways to lower energy bills, fight climate change, equitably create access to green technology and create jobs in New England.

These programs include discounts, rebates and incentives for energy-saving products like insulation and smart thermostats, as well as and services, professional energy assessments, tools to help customers better understand their energy use, and easy energy-saving tips.

Your Clean Energy Future

Equitable access to energy efficiency solutions remains a pillar of our energy efficiency programs. Other primary themes include energy affordability and decarbonization.

Over the past five years, our energy efficiency programs have transformed from a laser focus on energy efficiency, to augmenting energy efficiency with decarbonization.

To address the growing demand for electrification and decarbonization strategies, we continue to develop offers and opportunities for customers interested in lowering their carbon footprint and working together to achieve a cleaner energy future.

In 2023, we invested over $659 million in energy efficiency programs for homes, businesses and communities we serve.
Our energy efficiency improvements avoided 2.8 million metric tons of lifetime greenhouse gas emissions

Net zero new construction

We offer support to our customers for new construction and major renovation projects, which can help incorporate building efficiency and lower energy and operational expenses. This includes pathways for our commercial and industrial customers that are willing to set ultralow energy use and carbon emissions targets in early design.

As one of the most substantial investments a municipality will make in a taxpayer’s lifetime, new or fully renovated K–12 schools should be constructed with a low-carbon future in mind—securing benefits for decades to come.

Helping small businesses reduce their energy use

Our Main Streets program connects contractors to local small businesses, where they conduct energy assessments, respond to questions about energy-efficient upgrades, and even provide some improvements right on the spot - all at no on-site cost.

In 2024, our Main Streets program served a total of 40 communities.

Demand Management

Our demand response solutions incentivize customers to use less energy during times of peak energy usage, which lowers demand on the electric grid. In 2024, we engaged more than 320 businesses and 70,000 residential customers using a range of demand reduction strategies and technologies that resulted in cost savings, reduced demand on the electric grid and lowered greenhouse gas emissions by avoiding additional fossil fuel generation during periods of high demand.

Nearly 210 megawatts are actively dispatched in the ConnectedSolutions demand response program across all three states every year. Active demand response continues to gain popularity and participation. In 2024 we expanded participation in the program through an improved customer experience while incentivizing consistent performance with existing participants year over year.
