Dartmouth-Westport Distribution Line Upgrades

Why Are We Doing This Project?

Upgrades to electric distribution lines in Dartmouth and Westport, Massachusetts, are needed to support the integration of new clean energy resources onto the electric grid. This project will improve reliability for customers and connect renewable energy resources.

This work is part of a larger initiative focused on electric system enhancements to maintain reliability and enable distributed energy resource (DER) facilities to safely interconnect and operate.

Where Is This Work Being Done?

Construction will include both underground and overhead electric distribution upgrades in the following locations:

  • Hix Bridge Road in Westport: Crews will install approximately 3.4 miles of new underground lines along Hix Bridge Road between Drift Road and Division Road. Small segments will also be installed on Drift Road and Horseneck Road.
  • Drift Road in Westport: Crews will replace wires on existing poles along a two-mile segment of Drift Road between Hix Bridge Road and Soules Way. This includes replacing an approximately quarter mile segment of wire on Soules Way.
  • Horseneck Road in Westport: Crews will replace wires on existing poles along a four-mile segment on Horseneck Road starting south of Hix Bridge Road and ending south of Indian Spring Way.
  • Fisher Road and Gidley Town Road in Dartmouth: Crews will install new underground lines on Gidley Town Road and Fisher Road. Work will begin at the Division Road-Gidley Town Road intersection and end at Fisher Road Substation at 630 Fisher Road.
