storm response storm restoration estimated time of restoration

Energy company working around-the-clock to restore power to customers with assistance from hundreds of out-of-state crews

BOSTON, Mass. (Feb. 24, 2026) – As Eversource makes significant progress assessing and repairing the widespread damage from the historic blizzard that slammed Massachusetts, the energy company estimates nearly all customers affected by the storm will have power back by Friday at 11:59 p.m., with service being restored to the vast majority of customers before that time. With the support of additional out-of-state resources arriving from across the region overnight and throughout the day, a massive contingent of more than 2,000 resources– including line, tree and service crews as well as other operations personnel – is working to restore power to Eversource customers across hard-hit areas including Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Plymouth and Bristol counties.

As of 4:30 p.m., Eversource has restored power to more than 185,000 customers since the storm began, including more than 43,000 customers since Tuesday morning. Approximately 211,000 customers remain without power, and Eversource will continue working around-the-clock until all customers are restored. Customers may have already received an estimated time of restoration for their specific outage. For those who have not, estimates will be provided as crews arrive on site at their location and assess the damage. Eversource will share restoration estimates for all impacted communities in a later update.

“This is an all-hands on deck, multi-day power restoration effort, and we have a massive work force out in the field with crews from as far as Canada and the Midwest all working toward the same goal of restoring power for our customers,” said Eversource President of Massachusetts Electric Operations Doug Foley. “While we have been responding to this storm as quickly as safety permits, the improved weather today is allowing crews to make strong progress assessing damage across the Cape and coastal communities, making repairs and restoring service to customers. However, even though travel and work conditions are improving, there are still some locations in these hard-hit areas that are extremely challenging for our crews to access, with roads still unplowed and impassable or narrowed by snowbanks. We have even more crews from across the region that continue arriving to support our large-scale restoration effort. More than 133,000 customers without power currently have line crews actively working to repair the damage impacting them, and our team both in the field and behind the scenes is committed to working non-stop until every customer impacted by this storm has their power back on.”

Most of the devastation from this historic storm was caused by the combination of hurricane-force winds and heavy, wet snow bringing down trees onto power lines and equipment, causing widespread damage to the electric system in eastern Massachusetts, especially in coastal communities. The energy company is inspecting damage to its infrastructure from the skies, using helicopters and drones to patrol power lines and evaluate what repairs are needed. Snow removal has proven to be a significant issue, blocking access to downed wires and damaged equipment, but progress is expected to improve. With improved travel, work and weather conditions, crews will be working tirelessly over the next several days to repair the significant damage from this storm and restore power as quickly and safely as possible.

As crews remain laser-focused on restoration, Eversource is also coordinating closely with its municipal partners to address community priorities such as clearing blocked roads and restoring critical facilities. Since the storm’s onset, the energy company has responded to more than 775 public safety calls, and the company’s dedicated community liaisons continue to collaborate with municipalities so they can attend to any concerns as the restoration progresses.

Eversource reminds customers to stay clear of downed wires – and keep pets away – as the lines may be hidden by snow, report them immediately to 9-1-1, and use extreme caution during storm cleanup. Customers using generators should ensure they are operated outdoors and far away from buildings.
