Readying a Drought-Damaged Summer Camp

Stringing electric lines is part of the job for our lineworkers, but recently they used their bucket trucks and skills for a different kind of project – stringing ropes for a challenge course at a summer camp in Ashford.

Several lineworkers, along with more than a dozen other Eversource employees, volunteered at the June Norcross Webster Scout Reservation Camp as part of Scouting America’s Day of Caring. The volunteers helped to prepare and improve the camp before the 2025 summer season – working on landscaping, tree trimming, electrical work and much-needed trail maintenance, in addition to installing the new ropes course.

"Their commitment to giving back exemplifies the spirit of community partnership that we value deeply as an organization and it’s what helps make scouting programs possible. I can’t wait to welcome the 2,500 campers throughout the summer and see the looks on their faces when they see the camp," continued Deschamp.

Eversource volunteers assist at the June Norcross Webster Scout Reservation Camp as part of Scouting America's Day of Caring.

We donated the utility poles, ropes, materials and labor for the new ropes course – an idea spearheaded by one of our lineworkers who spent his childhood summers there as a camper.

“When our employee brought this project to us, it was a no brainer because supporting the communities we serve is something we’re always proud to do,” said Eversource Vice President of Connecticut Electric Operations Chris Colorio.

“Partnering with Scouting America to help spruce up their summer camp and provide the poles and crews needed to install the new ropes course is a privilege. Our company and our employees, who are volunteering their time and expertise, are thrilled to lend a hand to this incredible organization that provides an unforgettable summer experience for campers.”
