Fuel Cell Electricity Generation Projects

In Connecticut, you may be able to sell renewable energy credits (RECs) generated from qualifying fuel cell projects to Eversource.

How It Works

As a result of Public Act 21-162, electric customers in Connecticut can submit proposals for new fuel cell projects to Eversource. If approved, customers can sell RECs generated from the project to Eversource through a long-term agreement.

What are RECs?

Renewable energy credits (RECs) are credits for each megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity that your system generates regardless of whether you use the energy or it is exported to the electric grid.

What's a qualifying fuel cell project?

To qualify, a project must be a maximum of 24,000 kW (AC) and located in the Eversource service territory. Projects must be interconnected into the Eversource distribution system, have a separate generation meter and be fully in service on or after July 1, 2021.
