Lighting & Controls Energy Saving Tips

Even if your lighting system is new, you may still have opportunities to reduce the energy needed to light your indoor and outdoor facilities.

ENERGY STAR certified LED light-bubs use up to 90% less energy than traditional light-bulbs.

Implement company-wide procedures for shutting off lights during closed hours and during certain operating schedules that require less man-made light. This can include dimming or shutting down portions of lights in unoccupied spaces through manual or automated controls.

Some lighting may be controlled by a clock that switches the lights off and on automatically at predetermined times, or by light sensing photocells. Occupancy sensors can save between 15-30% on lighting costs.

Allow enough light for employees to safely enter/exit, but reduce lighting in display, retail and waiting areas where feasible.

Make the most of natural light by moving desks, reading chairs and workbenches closer to windows. Keep in mind that lighter colors for walls, ceilings and floors reflect more sunlight.
