 In support of the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s (CTDOT) Norwalk Bridge Replacement Project, Eversource is commemorating the completion of its transmission work, a necessary step to enable the next phase of the replacement of the aging WALK Bridge and ensure continued railroad operation along the vital Northeast Corridor – the busiest passenger railway in the country carrying more than 2,000 trains daily. After years of close collaboration with CTDOT, the City of Norwalk and other project partners from early planning through construction, the energy company successfully relocated two electric transmission lines that spanned the top of the bridge, which now run underground through tunnels beneath the Norwalk River and city streets to keep power flowing for customers.

As the ocean waters churn along the east coast and another hurricane season begins, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is predicting above-normal activity for the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season. Between June 1 and November 30, NOAA is forecasting a 60% chance of an above-normal season with 6-10 hurricanes having winds of 74 mph or higher and 3-5 major hurricanes with winds 111 mph or higher. With the changing climate increasing the frequency and severity of extreme weather around the globe, including here in New England, Eversource is reminding customers to plan and always be prepared for severe weather. Stringing electric lines is part of the job for Eversource lineworkers, but today they’re using their bucket trucks and skills for a different kind of project – stringing ropes for a challenge course at a summer camp in Ashford. As warmer weather arrives in Connecticut and customers start cranking up the air conditioner to beat the heat, a new lower Standard Service supply rate was filed today with Connecticut’s Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) that would go into effect July 1. The new Standard Service rate for residential customers receiving energy supply through Eversource would change from the current 11.19 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) to 9.75 cents per kWh starting July 1. For the typical residential customer using 700 kWh per month, that’s a decrease of approximately $10, or 5%, on their total bill.

With the Hawthorne brush fire continuing to burn and spread on Lamentation Mountain in Berlin, Eversource is closely monitoring electric transmission lines and equipment in the vicinity. To assess any possible damage, the energy company is conducting ongoing aerial surveys on three of its high-voltage power lines, located approximately a mile and a half from where it is believed the fire originated. At the present time, no issues are identified with any electric equipment in the area and no associated power outages are reported.
