Beyond the Day Job: Storm Damage Assessment Coordinator

Shifting Roles for a Storm

Our employees work across a wide range of roles — from engineering and operations to customer service and corporate support.

But when a storm approaches, everything changes.

We activate our storm response and many of our employees take on temporary storm roles that are quite different from their day-to-day responsibilities.

Meet Anna Raby and James Gagnon

At their day jobs, Anna Raby is a senior supervisor of integrated planning and scheduling, and Jim Gagnon is a supervisor in field engineering and design.

But during a big storm, they work together to deploy the first people on the scene.

Raby and Gagnon coordinate a team of damage assessors who survey the damage to poles and wires and evaluate what equipment and resources are essential to restore power safely and quickly.

“Our team investigates the situation,” Gagnon said. “They assess the damaged area and provide as much detail as they can. It’s extremely crucial.”

Raby, Gagnon and other damage assessment coordinators input that data into the system so the team that assigns crews can get the right crew and equipment to the scene of the outage.

“We do our job so the line crews are not wasting time,” Raby said. “When they get there, they have the equipment they need to make repairs.”
