How We Support Special Olympics
Connecticut
We have been presenting sponsor of the Special Olympics Connecticut Winter Games since 1989.
Our team of volunteers – employees and retirees – set up snowmaking pipes at our Windsor Operations Center and work around the clock running the machines to make sure there's enough snow so hundreds of athletes can compete in cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
It's the only group of volunteers in the world that makes snow exclusively for a Special Olympics event.
The team spends nearly five months planning the competition. Their work has been recognized several times by the Special Olympics community and multiple members of the volunteer planning team have received the Unsung Hero award from Special Olympics Connecticut.
Our year-round partnership with Special Olympics also includes sponsoring the Winter Plunge where employees and their families bravely jump into a cold body of water. We look forward to participating in the Penguin Plunge in Tolland, Connecticut on March 30.
Massachusetts
Our employees have helped set up the Summer Games’ regional qualifying tournament in western Massachusetts since 2018. In 2019 we added the eastern Massachusetts qualifier and the season-ending Tournament of Champions.
During this 2024's inaugural Polar Plunge at our Westwood office, more than 70 employees belly-flopped and cannon-balled into the chilly pool and raised more than $40,000 for Special Olympics.
New Hampshire
We are proud to sponsor the Special Olympics of New Hampshire Winter Games at Waterville Valley, which include a variety of outdoor and indoor activities.
More than 130 employees volunteered this year, managing the resort experience for the athletes and assisting downhill skiers and snowboarders, timing cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, and helping to set up racecourses.
Our year-round partnership with Special Olympics also includes sponsoring the Penguin Plunge where employees and their families bravely jump into a cold body of water.
This year at Hampton Beach, 59 brave employees entered the frigid waters off the coast of New Hampshire to raise $114,784 for Special Olympics New Hampshire.
More Partnerships
We sponsor and participate in several events across the territory.
