Case Study: The Roosevelt House

We helped design an award-winning, carbon-free home that is 40-50% more energy efficient than a typical new home, leaving the homeowners with a net zero energy bill.

Learn how affordable home ownership, energy efficiency and sustainability go hand in hand.

Habitat for Humanity Home

The Roosevelt House in Hartford, Connecticut is Hartford Habitat for Humanity’s first home built to the Department of Energy’s Zero Energy Ready Home standards. It’s so energy efficient, it can offset all or most of its energy consumption.

The project won the grand prize in the Affordability Category – Single-Family Detached – of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Housing Innovation awards, beating out winners from around the country.

The Roosevelt House Project

We partnered with the Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity (HAHFH), Home Energy Technologies, Posigen and The Connecticut Green Bank to create a home for the future.

Eversource energy efficiency experts designed the home using the latest technologies and construction techniques including:

  • Airtight construction
  • Solar panels
  • A heat pump water heater
  • Low-flow water fixtures
  • ENERGY-STAR certified appliances

With these technologies, the Roosevelt House homeowners can live comfortably, save significantly on energy costs and feel good knowing their home is carbon-free.
