Mystic to Woburn Line Project
Why Are We Doing This Project?
This project improves reliability and addresses the growing need for electricity in the area. We completed construction of the project in March 2024, and the new transmission line was energized and put into service on March 30, 2024.
Where Is This Work Being Done?
This project included a new 115-kilovolt (kV) underground transmission line that connects Eversource’s Mystic Substation in Everett and Eversource’s Woburn Substation.
The line extends approximately 8 miles between two existing substations, passing through Everett, Boston (Charlestown), Somerville, Medford, Winchester, and Woburn. The project also included improvements within the existing fence lines of the Woburn and Mystic substations.

Construction Updates
We are committed to keeping neighbors, businesses and community members informed on project activities during construction. The schedule may change due to weather or other unexpected circumstances.
We take every safety precaution while working in local communities, and all people working on the construction carry proper identification.
This work is not expected to interrupt electric service to homes or businesses.

There are no construction activities planned in Charlestown at this time.
Everett
Mystic Substation
Construction started at the Mystic Substation on Alford Street in late July 2017.
All construction activities are within and around the substation. No substation expansion is planned.
Medford

There are no construction activities planned in Medford at this time.
Somerville
Week of April 8
There are no construction activities planned in Somerville at this time.
Winchester
Week of April 8
There are no construction activities planned in Winchester at this time.
Woburn
Woburn Substation
All construction activities remaining on the Mystic to Woburn Line Project are within and around the substation fence. No substation expansion is planned.
Energy Facilities Siting Board
The Massachusetts ESFB Petition Filing is part of the regulatory review process, as defined by Massachusetts state statutes.
On March 9, 2017, we received approval from the EFSB to construct the project. See EFSB 15-03 Final Decision.
Community Outreach
Before starting construction in a community, we will mail start of construction letters to property owners along the route and conduct door-to-door outreach to nearby property owners, residents and local businesses.
Door-to-door outreach efforts for the project are currently limited to mailing letters and leaving door hangers without knocking (to avoid face-to-face communication). Full in-person communication efforts will resume when appropriate.
