WOBURN TO WAKEFIELD LINE PROJECT
To improve reliability and address the growing need for electricity, Eversource is preparing to construct its portion of the Woburn to Wakefield Line Project.
At Eversource, we're always working to serve you better. This project includes a new 345-kilovolt (kV) underground transmission line that will connect Eversource’s Woburn Substation in Woburn and National Grid’s Wakefield Junction Substation in Wakefield, Mass.
The line will extend approximately 8.5 miles between two existing substations, passing through Woburn, Winchester, Stoneham, and Wakefield. The project also includes improvements within the existing fence lines of the Woburn and Wakefield substations.
Eversource will be constructing the new line from the Woburn Substation through Woburn, Winchester and Stoneham to the Wakefield border. For more information specific to the Town of Wakefield, please visit National Grid's website.

Energy Facilities Siting Board
For an electric transmission line project, such as the Woburn to Wakefield Line Project, the Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Board (EFSB) Petition Filing is part of the regulatory review process, as defined by Massachusetts state statutes.
On February 28, 2017, Eversource received approval from the EFSB to construct the Woburn to Wakefield Line Project.
Traffic Management Plans
Working in consultation with town officials, Eversource is developing Traffic Management Plans (TMPs) for the construction of the Woburn to Wakefield Line Project.
The TMPs include, among other things, conditions specific to routing by the EFSB in its decision, a site plan showing underground line location, hours of construction, and area-specific traffic controls.
Please note, TMPs are subject to change and may be updated.
Eversource is committed to keeping neighbors, businesses and community members up-to-date on project activities during construction.
Construction will begin in the fourth quarter of 2019 and work is not expected to interrupt electric service to homes or businesses.

During the week of January 14, a large piece of equipment, called a shunt reactor, is scheduled to be delivered to the Eversource substation on Pond Street. The equipment will be moved using a large trailer during overnight hours.
Residents whose property is next to the substation may notice additional truck and support-vehicle traffic associated with this delivery for a short time period overnight. Our drivers will use extra precautions when in your neighborhood and will attempt to have as little noise and lighting disturbance as possible.
Once the equipment is delivered, work installing and assembling the equipment will take place within the existing substation boundaries during permitted work hours (7 a.m. to 6 p.m.).
The equipment delivery and associated work within the substation do not indicate the start of construction.
