Mystic to Golden Hills Reliability Project

As part of our everyday effort to deliver reliable energy, we are replacing two, 345-kilovolt (kV) transmission lines with new cables in the communities of Everett, Malden, Melrose and Saugus, Mass.

A strong electrical transmission grid is vital to the safety, security and economic prosperity of the region. The transmission system serves a critical role to ensure that electricity flows with a high degree of reliability from wherever the power is generated to where power is needed.

The Mystic to Golden Hills Reliability Project spans approximately 6 miles from the Mystic Substation in Everett, passing through portions of Malden and Melrose, to National Grid's Golden Hills Substation in Saugus.

Work includes replacing two, aging, underground cables with new underground cables, and reusing the existing duct bank (a group of tubes to house electric lines). Reusing the duct bank allows us to reduce the amount of surface excavation, which will help minimize traffic disruptions.

Community Outreach

Eversource is committed to updating neighbors, businesses, and all community members about project activities. Before starting construction in a community, notifications will be mailed to all property owners within 300 feet of the project route. A Field Outreach Specialist will conduct outreach to nearby property owners, residents and local businesses informing them of the start of project work.

This project website will also be updated weekly, reflecting locations where crews will be working and the construction activities taking place.

Construction Updates

First, please know that Eversource takes every safety precaution while working in local communities, and that all people working on the construction project carry identification. The project work will not interrupt electric service to homes or businesses.

Please keep in mind that the construction schedule may change due to weather or other unexpected circumstances.

Construction activities are complete on the first line of the Project. Additional information regarding the start of construction for the second line of the Project will be updated shortly.

Traffic Management Plans

Working in consultation with town and state officials, including the Mass. Department of Transportation, Eversource develops a set of Traffic Management Plans (TMPs) for each section of the Mystic to Golden Hills Reliability Project prior to performing work in the street or sidewalks.

The TMPs illustrate detailed site plans, showing underground line locations, hours of construction, area-specific traffic controls and more.
