UCMP Hopkinton to Milford Line Replacement

Español | Português Brasileiro (PDFs)

Why Are We Doing This Project?

To meet future demand, deliver reliable energy and provide exceptional service to our customers, we are proposing to replace existing 115-kilovolt (kV) high-pressure gas filled (HPGF) electric transmission lines with modernized cross-linked polyethylene 115-kv (XLPE) electric transmission cable infrastructure. The existing 126-501/502 HPGF electric transmission lines in Hopkinton and Milford were installed in 1998 and are among the last remaining HPGF lines in operation within our system.

Replacing the existing HPGF lines with XLPE will modernize cable infrastructure and increase long-term system reliability. These improvements align with the Commonwealth's goal to achieve net zero carbon emission standards by 2050. The proposed project is part of a larger program we are conducting throughout our service territory in Massachusetts and Connecticut related to underground cable modernization.

Where Is The Work Being Done?

The proposed 126-501/502 replacement lines would follow the same or similar 1.3-mile route as the existing lines.

Most of the work will be concentrated along Purchase Street in Milford and on a portion of South Street in Hopkinton, between two existing substations. Minor equipment upgrades will be required at Hopkinton Substation and Milford Substation to accommodate the new infrastructure.

Replacement work will not interrupt normal electric service to customers.
