Worcester Feed Line Improvement Project

The Worcester Feed Line Improvement Project will help ensure a consistent, reliable flow of natural gas to the region. The project will involve the installation of approximately five miles of 16-inch pipe in Southboro and Westboro.

The 12-inch existing pipe being replaced was installed in the early 1970s and is undersized for current gas demand in that part of our service territory.

Construction is expected to begin in 2021 and be completed in 2022, with work taking place between March through November of each year. We will suspend project work between December and February, when the ground is typically snow-covered and/or frozen - making construction work slow and difficult.

Gas service to customers will not be impacted by this construction. Also, new service lines will not be connected to this new pipe.

Eversource will restore roadways to existing or line-new condition. Safe access will be maintained to residences and business during construction. We'll also ensure priority passage of emergency vehicle traffic through active construction areas.

Please know, Eversource always complies with Massachusetts siting requirements. Pre-environmental and utility survey work has been completed and the project is currently in the early permitting stages.

We’re Committed to Keeping You Informed

Working together and keeping you informed are important to the successful completion of this project.

As construction professionals, we also know that living within a work zone can be challenging and we will do our best to minimize any disruption.

We’re committed to keeping you connected through a variety of methods including letters, community meetings, door-to-door notifications, phone calls and other methods you might prefer. An informational flyer with more information is available.

Eversource held multiple meetings in 2019 with Westboro and Southboro municipal officials, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), Massachusetts Environmental Protection Agency (MEPA), the Energy Facilities Siting Board (EFSB) as well as residents and businesses abutting the project.
