Tremont Substation Expansion

Why Are We Doing This Project?

We determined after an extensive study that integration of additional clean energy into the electrical grid in the Plymouth area requires upgrades to our Tremont Substation. This project will support interconnection of new renewable resources and improve reliability.

This work is part of a larger initiative focused on electric system enhancements to maintain reliability and enable distributed energy resource (DER) facilities to safely interconnect and operate.

Where Is This Work Being Done?

Our Tremont Substation is located off Carver Road Extension in Wareham. Upgrades to the substation include:  

  • Replacing two existing transformers
  • Installing one new transformer
  • Replacing distribution equipment with metal-clad switchgear
  • Installing new capacitor banks
  • Expanding the substation to accommodate new equipment

When Is The Work Being Done?

  • Proposed start of construction: Q3 2026*
  • Estimated in-service date: Q3 2028

*Subject to change, pending necessary approvals

Community Outreach

We are engaging town and city officials, residents, businesses, community groups and other stakeholders via municipal briefings, open houses, mailings and meetings to answer questions and listen to concerns. We will keep you informed as the proposed project proceeds through the permitting process.

Join us at our open house and informational meeting to learn more about the project and share feedback. Our energy efficiency and billing assistance representatives will share information about different program offerings.
