Chestnut Street to Highland Avenue Distribution Project
Why Are We Doing This Project?
This project supports electrical distribution enhancements to accommodate regional infrastructure initiatives, and is designed to improve reliability of the electric system in the Needham area. This work will not disrupt electrical service.
Where Is The Work Being Done?
We will install 1.7 miles of new underground electric distribution duct banks and cable, while upgrading and reusing 1.3 miles of existing infrastructure.
Work will primarily take place on Grant Street, Fair Oaks Park, Webster Street and Highland Avenue in Needham. New manholes will be installed throughout the route along Grant Street, Webster Street and Highland Avenue.
Crews will be working at one location along the project route for 2-4 weeks before continuing. The duration of work at each location is dependent on the number of existing utilities that crews encounter, and unforeseen conditions.
Traffic management plans
We coordinate closely with municipal officials on effective traffic management throughout the project. Parking restrictions may be necessary and clear notification will be provided in advance.
Construction crews will occupy a portion of the roadway leaving the remainder of the road passable to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
When Is The Work Being Done?
- Start of construction: Q3 2025*
- Projected completion of street work: Q1 2028
*Subject to change, pending necessary approvals
