Atlantic hurricane season lasts through November, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is predicting a near-normal season with up to 17 storms having winds above 39 mph and possibly nine of those storms becoming hurricanes.

After energy supply prices reached historic highs in New England last year due to natural gas supply constraints following the war in Ukraine and other global pressures, Eversource is letting its customers know they can expect to see a decrease on their bills when the next adjustment to the Basic Service rate takes place in Massachusetts on July 1. With energy supply markets in a downward trend, the energy company will file new electricity supply prices it receives from power suppliers with the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) in mid-May after completing its procurement process as outlined in state regulations.

Eversource natural gas customers can expect lower costs for the upcoming off-peak season beginning May 1 due to a significant drop in global market prices and reduced individual use during the summer months. Following major energy efficiency upgrades at 21 Big Y grocery stores across Connecticut and Massachusetts, the chain is now reaping the benefits and savings. Big Y partnered with Eversource’s energy efficiency experts to take advantage of incentive programs to make several upgrades in multiple stores. The grocery store chain is now saving some 9.3 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, the equivalent of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by removing 840 gasoline powered vehicles from area roads for a year.
