Research
Eversource Energy Center
The Eversource Energy Center develops state-of-the-art approaches to reliable power and extreme weather response, using science in storm modeling and damage forecasting to prevent customer outages, shorten restoration times and reinforce the distribution system to withstand storm impacts and improve reliability. The UConn and Eversource partnership offers several innovative opportunities for student and faculty research.
Clean Energy and Sustainability Innovation Program (CESIP)
CESIP is a funded research innovation competition that supports students interested in designing our energy future.
It is an opportunity for teams of undergraduate and graduate students to propose their own ideas that facilitate a clean energy transition. Selected student teams receive summer funding and are paired with mentors from the UConn faculty and Eversource to guide their research, which is presented at the annual Sustainable Clean Energy Summit. In 2024, five student teams were selected to expand their projects.
Bill Quinlan, President of Transmission and Offshore Wind Projects presents the 2024 Clean Energy and Sustainability Innovation Program (CESIP) Award to Meshach Ojo, Lucy Li and Steven Matile, along with their UConn and Eversource mentors Diego Cerrai, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering and Nick Pellon, Senior Engineer, Transmission Interconnections.
Clean Energy Future
UConn has a smaller carbon footprint than it did 20 years ago, thanks to long-term investments, its own power plant and continuous partnership with us. With a growing campus and increasing electric demand, UConn’s facilities and operations team works closely with us to identify energy conservation opportunities and cost savings across their five campuses to meet shared decarbonization goals.
Sustainable Clean Energy Summit
The Sustainable Clean Energy Summit convenes local, state and national experts, industry insiders and academics to discuss the latest decarbonization efforts. The 2024 summit was held on September 23 and featured U.S. Department of Energy Assistant Secretary for Electricity Gene Rodrigues as a keynote speaker. CESIP finalists also presented their research.
Career Pathways
We work with UConn to expand opportunities for students beyond their academic careers.
Our University Relations supports the work of a number of campus partners including the College of Engineering’s Vergnano Institute for Inclusion and the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) by promoting student programs and recruiting for early career development programs, co-ops, internships and job opportunities.
Sustainability
Sustainability is embedded in how we conduct our business today and for future generations, with environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives integrated into the policies and principles that govern our company.
