Company makes financial contribution and stands ready to assist

BERLIN, Conn. – Eversource is providing a comprehensive response to the call for critical resources to meet humanitarian needs in Puerto Rico. The energy company is contributing $25,000 between the Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief Network and Hurricane Relief for Puerto Rico, two funds established with Connecticut non-profits to raise needed money. The contribution is part of an overall company commitment to donate a total of $75,000 to organizations in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire supporting relief efforts.

“The widespread devastation Hurricane Maria caused in Puerto Rico will require a multifaceted response,” said Eversource President of Regional Electric Operations Craig Hallstrom. “We’re pleased to contribute to those in desperate need of essential resources. Financial commitments are important to ensure organizations are able to provide Puerto Rico with the resources they need – but as the region’s largest energy company, we believe we can do more.”

Eversource is closely monitoring the restoration planning efforts for Puerto Rico with other U.S. electric utilities as part of a coordinated national mutual aid response. The company stands ready to assist with the restoration effort, if requested. Eversource was proud to help get the power back on for thousands of Florida customers in September as part of one of the country’s largest restoration efforts in U.S. history after Hurricane Irma, and was part of the effort to rebuild the energy system in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Georges in 1998.

Eversource employees will be collecting nonperishable items at local work centers and are encouraging customers, contractors, and their family and friends to donate to the relief effort through the American Red Cross website.  These donations will enable the American Red Cross to provide shelter, meals and care for thousands of people facing this difficult recovery.

Eversource (NYSE: ES) transmits and delivers electricity to 1.2 million customers in 149 cities and towns and provides natural gas to 229,000 customers in 73 communities in Connecticut. Recognized as the top U.S. utility for its energy efficiency programs by the sustainability advocacy organization Ceres, Eversource harnesses the commitment of its approximately 8,000 employees across three states to build a single, united company around the mission of safely delivering reliable energy and superior customer service.
