Energy Storage & Electric Vehicles

We’re investing in innovative energy storage projects and electric vehicle charging station technology - offering many benefits for our customers.

Using batteries to store power can improve reliability, help manage peak demand for electricity, and eliminate the need to build new power lines or run certain types of fossil fuel power plants.

We’re the first utility in Massachusetts to receive approval for grid-scale energy storage. We’re planning two storage projects – among the largest projects of their kind in the country – on Martha’s Vineyard and Cape Cod.

We’ve also proposed projects in New Hampshire and are evaluating proposals in Connecticut.

Electric Vehicle keysElectric vehicles (EVs) are another area where we’re making a difference. Transportation accounts for nearly half of New England’s greenhouse gas emissions.

In Massachusetts, we’re investing in our grid to enable fast-charging technology at strategic and high-traffic locations. This work will support the addition of thousands of charging ports.

In New Hampshire, we’ve recently proposed a public-private partnership to create a fast-charging corridor across the state’s major roadways.

And we’re developing plans for an EV charging program in Connecticut.

These technologies support our states’ ambitious greenhouse gas reduction goals and empower a clean energy future for New England.
