Unplug electronics that aren’t being used
TVs, computers and gaming consoles use energy even when they're not on and can cost you up to $200 in wasted energy costs. Cut your standby energy use by unplugging your devices when you’re done using them.
Use Advanced power strips
If you’re able, consider switching to advanced power strips. These energy-saving devices sense when your electronic devices are idle and automatically prevent them from drawing power.
Discounted advanced power strips are available for our customers.
Adjust your computer’s power-management settings
If you aren’t ready to shut down and unplug your computer, make sure it goes into sleep mode when not being used. This can save you up to $75 every year. You can find this option in your computer’s settings.
Make sure to disable any screen savers, too. They consume energy and prevent your computer and monitor from going into sleep mode.
Finally, turn off your monitor when you’re not using it. Contrary to popular belief, this can increase the lifespan of your device.
Purchase efficient products
When it comes time to buy new office equipment, consider purchasing energy-efficient products. ENERGY STAR certified products typically use about half the electricity of standard products.
