Winter Cost of Gas Increase

Global demand for natural gas, the pandemic, weather events impacting gas production, and lagging supply recovery have driven natural gas prices to 10-year highs.

These impacts will be felt by New England consumers this winter. We’re here to help with energy efficiency solutions, payment assistance plans and other programs.

What does this mean for Eversource customers?

Each month, we purchase natural gas from suppliers to meet customers' energy needs. Because inventories are down and global demand is high, prices are rising significantly. Our customers pay what we pay—with no profit to Eversource.

We expect the cost of gas to continue to rise and are expecting to see an increase with the December rate and through the course of the heating season. In November, the average residential heating customer could see a 14% or $18 increase on a total bill basis when compared to November 2020.
