Higher Than Normal Electric Bills

Our customers are seeing higher-than-normal electric bills this summer. We understand that this increase is distressing, especially during an already challenging time.

We're committed to helping customers reduce their bills and can provide flexible payment options. Our customer care number is 800-286-2000. We're here to help.

Across the state, residents are using more electricity. In June, our residential customers used 35% more energy than last year.

We're using more because we're spending more time at home due to COVID-19. All those extra hours at home mean more time using appliances, computers, TVs and other electric-powered devices.

On top of that, July 2020 was the second hottest July since 1950. This means air conditioners and dehumidifiers are running more frequently.

How to Decrease Your Usage

Increased usage affects both the supply and delivery charges on your bill. We have several energy-efficiency programs and services available to help you decrease your usage.

The rate increase that went to effect on July 1 has been temporarily reversed. The Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) will do a thorough review of distribution rates and we look forward to participating in the process.

For no cost, you can schedule a virtual or in-home Home Energy Solutions visit with one of our authorized contractors. There are programs available for both homeowners and renters.

You may receive up to $1,000 in products and services to help save you money and energy every year, including a rebate that reimburses up to 100% of the costs of an eligible insulation project.
