Walpole To Holbrook Reliability Project
To improve reliability and address the growing need for electricity in the Greater Boston and surrounding areas, Eversource is constructing the Walpole to Holbrook Reliability Project.
At Eversource, we're always working to serve you better. The project includes a new overhead 115-kilovolt (kV) transmission line on an existing right of way (power line corridor) that will connect the Walpole Substation in Walpole, Mass., and the Holbrook Substation in Holbrook.
The project will cover approximately 14.7 miles between the West Walpole and Holbrook substations. The new line between Walpole and Holbrook will be placed on almost entirely on existing structures.
We will also install new structures between the West Walpole Substation and the Walpole Substation, install a new switching station – a type of substation – in Sharon, and make modifications to the existing substations in Walpole and Holbrook.

Energy Facilities Siting Board
For an electric transmission line project, such as the Walpole to Holbrook Reliability Project, the Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Board (EFSB) Petition Filing is part of the siting regulatory view process, as defined by Massachusetts state statutes.
On September 20, 2017, Eversource received approval from the EFSB to construct the Walpole to Holbrook Reliability Project.
Construction & Updates
First, please know that Eversource takes every safety precaution while working in local communities, and that all people working on the construction project carry identification.
Eversource is committed to updating neighbors, businesses and the community about project activities, especially during construction. Please note that the project work will not interrupt electric service to homes or businesses.
Project construction began in November 2017 and is expected to be complete in mid-2019.
Work hours during construction will typically be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Due to unexpected weather or other circumstances, the work hours may be extended or performed on a Sunday.
Police officers will be stationed at every major intersection where construction is taking place. More information is available in the Traffic Management Plans below.

Week of May 20, 2019: Eversource crews will be digging trenches for conduits at the West Walpole Substation. Conduits are protective tubes for electric lines.
Traffic Management Plans
There will be some traffic impacts at certain street crossings during work hours. Police officers and/or construction crews will direct pedestrian and vehicle traffic, as needed. Eversource has worked in consultation with town and state officials, including the Mass. Department of Transportation, to develop a Traffic Management Plan (TMP) for each section of the Walpole to Holbrook Reliability Project.
The TMPs include conditions specific to routing, as directed by the EFSB in its decision; a detailed site plan showing the overhead line location; the hours of construction; area-specific traffic controls; and more. Please note, this information is approximate and subject to change. Some of the TMP documents are large and might take some time to load or download.
