Southwest Connecticut Reliability Project

Construction on a new transmission line and substation upgrades in southwest Connecticut were completed in June 2018.

At Eversource, we're always working to serve you better. These improvements strengthened the electric system to provide customers with the reliable power they need, both today and in the future.

The new line extends 3.4 miles, crossing through the towns of Bethel, Danbury, and Brookfield, Conn. The line is located entirely within Eversource’s existing transmission line right of way from Plumtree Substation (near Walnut Hill Road in Bethel) to an area near Park Ridge Road in Brookfield.

As part of the project, we also made related modifications to the Plumtree Substation in Bethel and the Stony Hill Substation in Brookfield.

Construction of the project began in December 2017 and was completed in June 2018.

Project Facts:

  • Route length: Approximately 3.4 miles
  • Location: Bethel, Brookfield and Danbury, Connecticut
  • Line voltage: 115,000-volt (115-kV) overhead transmission line
  • Substations: Substation upgrades at both Plumtree Substation in Bethel, and Stony Hill Substation in Brookfield
  • Siting review by: The Connecticut Siting Council (CSC)

Beginning with municipal briefings and community outreach efforts related to the siting stage of the project, we have made a concerted effort to engage town officials, residents, businesses, and other stakeholders to inform, answer questions, and listen to concerns about the project.

Although construction is complete, our field outreach representatives continue to work with property owners and other stakeholders throughout the restoration process.
