Understanding My Gas Bill

To help you better understand your gas bill, below is an example of a typical residential bill.

Billing Charge Definitions

Customer Charge: This represents the costs of providing services such as metering, billing and account maintenance. These are fixed costs and are not affected by the actual amount of gas used. Included is a charge for the energy audit program.

Distribution Charges: Cost of delivering natural gas through gas pipes to you.

Distribution Adjustment: This represents the cost of environmental, conservation and industry restructuring programs.

Supplier Charges: This portion of your bill represents charges associated with the supply of gas only. Because gas is bought in an open market, this section of your bill tends to fluctuate more than the distribution charges on your bill.
